Describe your role at Northern Trust
I am currently working as a Software Engineer in Northern Trust. I am part of Digital Asset Innovation team. Regarding my position, I am at an analyst level.
I am a relative newbie in a team that has many highly experienced people in it. My day-to-day role and work involves building Generative AI applications which I am passionate about.
These applications will be added to our suite of tools which then can be leveraged by the organization and offered to our global client base.
Take us through how you ended up at Northern? And what do you see as the next step in your career progression?
I was very lucky that I got selected for a summer internship in the technology division within Northern Trust during the summer after my junior year of university.
I was actually part of the Northern Trust pilot batch of summer interns. During my internship, I got a chance to work with Digital Asset Innovation Team. My work at that time around building blockchain-based applications.
Between the freedom to explore new technologies and the valuable learnings I got from the wider team, I knew I wanted to circle back to Northern Trust. I then joined Northern Trust as a full-time employee after the successful completion of my software engineering degree.
Currently, I am working in AI tech stack, and I see a lot of learning opportunities and continuous exposure to new technology.
What are you most proud of in your career at Northern Trust so far?
My work in my early day’s around our concept of PoC (Proof of Concept). PoC means that the application is not in production. The application is still in demo mode. Another team reached out to us, and wanted to check out our platform for trying their use case.
We also built a generic service for many other teams to access and use internally.
I am proud of seeing our team’s code in action and how it is solving real world problems, both internally and externally.
When did you realize that Northern Trust was a good fit for your career?
I suppose during my internship with the Digital Asset Innovation Team, I realised that Northern Trust was a good fit for me personally and professionally.
For me personally, the freedom and exposure that my team provided to new technologies was a differentiating factor.
