Trading Day raises more than $820K for Habitat for Humanity International—Global
Following the sun across all our Capital Markets desks, our first Charity Trading Day entailed 24 continuous hours of trading from Sydney to Singapore, London to Chicago, and all for a worthy cause. The October event, part of Achieving Greater Together–our signature month of service–raised $826K based on the day’s trading revenues to benefit Habitat for Humanity International. Northern Trust has supported the non-profit, which brings people together to build homes and community, for more than three decades.
La Casa Norte—Chicago, Ill., U.S.
"I think there should be more programs like Solid Ground through this whole entire city,” says Anthony Rocquemore, 19, a resident of Solid Ground, a transitional housing facility run by La Casa Norte in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago. The organization provides access to stable housing and delivers comprehensive services that help transform lives and communities. “There's a lot of kids who struggle through abusive situations. This program makes it easier for somebody going through that to find resources.” Thanks to the assistance he found at La Casa Norte, a 2022 Northern Trust Foundation grant recipient, Rocquemore has big plans: to transfer from Harold Washington College to Northeastern Illinois University next year to pursue a bachelor’s degree through Reserve Officers’ Training camp (ROTC) before commissioning into the U.S. Air Force.
Ronald McDonald House—Utrecht, Netherlands
When your child is sick and in the hospital, you want to be right at their side—not commuting. The Ronald McDonald House Utrecht makes that possible, offering families accommodation on a sliding scale based on their ability to pay, and support, right near the hospital where their child is being treated. Northern Trust helped the Ronald McDonald House this year by providing funding for overnight stays, while our employees also cooked meals for families onsite.
For one couple who experienced a months-long emotional roller coaster as their daughter was treated, it was the small kindnesses, in addition to receiving housing just a few hundred steps from her hospital, that helped them weather the difficult days.
Chapman Partnership—Miami, Fla., U.S.
Thanks to a Northern Trust donation, the Chapman Partnership—which provides comprehensive services to support people exiting homelessness and helps them maintain long-term self-sufficiency—was able to provide 125 men, women and children with short-term housing and nutrition at the organization’s state-of-the-art Homeless Assistance Centers, the primary intake facilities in Miami-Dade County’s Homeless Continuum of Care. Northern Trust volunteers also worked with the Chapman staff to serve lunch to 500 of their residents.
