Steve is vice chairman of Northern Trust with responsibility for the operationalization of the corporation’s One Northern Trust growth strategy, one of three corporate-wide priorities, in addition to managing other strategic initiatives.  

Prior to this role, Steve led Northern Trust’s Wealth Management business for a decade. During his tenure, the business earned innovative industry-leading patents, was recognized by the Financial Times as the Best Private Bank in the United States eight out of 10 years, and published an industry-leading book, Secrets of Enterprising Families. 

Steve has a diversified financial services career with Northern Trust, having previously served as president of Asset Servicing, executive vice president & chief financial officer, and head of international business among other roles. 

Steve joined Northern Trust in 1985 after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Washington University. He completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School in 1994. 

He is a non-executive director of Equiniti Trust Company, LLC, and serves on the board of directors of the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Steve also is the founder of CFO Select, a forum for the exchange of ideas and best practices among Chief Financial Officers.
