Lupe Czerwinski joined Northern Trust in 2023 to lead the digital process automation technology team as part of our technology modernization initiative.  The next 12 months are crucial for her and her team as they prepare for their first pilot launch of an account opening digital product for wealth management. Her team of 120 talented technologists at various career levels located primarily in Chicago, Pune and Bangalore are ready for what’s ahead.

Describe your role at Northern Trust.

I am responsible for overseeing the development and execution of the digital engineering strategy for technology-enabled automation of business processes (BPA).

BPA can help a business in simplicity, to increase digital transformation, increase service quality and delivery, or contain costs. My work includes managing the engineering team and ensuring that new products are developed and existing products are improved.

Describe your team – who’s part of your team, where are they located, what diversity of perspective do the team members bring to the work of your group?

I manage a team of 140 talented technologists at various career levels located primarily in Chicago, Pune and Bangalore. The majority of the engineering talent is focused on maintaining and enhancing the quality and security of the current products and features currently used by internal teams.

Take us through how you ended up at Northern? Briefly describe your career path.

My career in banking started as a financial analyst supporting cash management product and sales which progressed to working in technology as a Business Systems Analyst Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Implementation Manager and ultimately a product development program director at JP Morgan Chase.

I also spent 4 years working in a Dot Com who partnered with a venture capital company to implement the digital transformation of customer servicing at McDonald’s Corp.

I joined Northern Trust in 2023 to lead the digital process automation technology team in addition to leading the account open and reference data impact zone with the digital account open product.

I enjoy learning more about where technology product development can enhance our customer experience and ultimately amplify our brand in the world.

What are you most proud of in your career at Northern Trust so far?

I have enjoyed the many net new product releases we have implemented over the past year since all have met important business results.

This year will be a critical year for us as we prepare for our first pilot launch of the account opening digital product for wealth management.  We will receive necessary feedback but most importantly timely feedback to make adjustments before implementing additional clients on the solution.

When did you realize that Northern Trust was a good fit for your career? What do you like best about working at Northern Trust?

The technology product development work is a good fit for where my career has taken me in banking.

I lead an engineering team of talented individuals and work with a diverse group of skilled professionals in technology and operations on a daily basis. This has allowed me to not only learn about the business, but most importantly lead individuals who are on their own professional development journey towards digital product development. I joined the Latin Heritage Leadership as a co-communications chair for the Hispanic business resource group in 2023 as a way to meet and engage with other Northern Trust employees.

This incredible group of professionals genuinely inspire me to do more and are incredibly supportive – which is the best part of working at Northern Trust!

What would you say to someone considering a career at Northern Trust?

Join Northern Trust if you would like to be an active participant in change.

We are moving forward in our strategy towards One Northern Trust and need thought leaders and implementors to continuously improve the capabilities we have delivered for 135 years.

You will be challenged and will find that your voice will be heard and respected.
