COMMITTED TO PROTECTING AND PRESERVING THE ENVIRONMENT
Participant in CDP
As a participant in the CDP, Northern Trust calculates and discloses its greenhouse gas emissions yearly using available data and assumptions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol of the World Resources Institute, and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Our historic disclosures are available for review at www.cdp.net.
Global Employee Engagement through the Sustainability Network
The Sustainability Network aims to increase awareness of sustainability issues, promote best practices and unify environmentally focused business operations. Through close collaboration between our building managers and employee-volunteer sustainability champions, the Network delivers consistent environmental messages, gauges employee feedback and advocates for conservation.
Managing Our Supply Chain to Encourage Sustainability
Our supply chain contracts ask our vendors to detail their environmental policies and initiatives, which we use to determine whether their sustainability goals and operations align with those of Northern Trust. A vendor’s upstream procurement policy helps us ensure environmental performance from our service and product suppliers.
United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment
As a member of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI), Northern Trust collaborates with our peers to understand current and emerging environmental, social and governance challenges, why they matter to finance and how to actively participate in addressing them.
