THE 2020 NORTHERN TRUST Champion: DUSTIN JOHNSON

After career-low 60 in second round, Johnson outpaced the rest of the field at TPC Boston.

Dustin Johnson led the rest of the field all day Sunday during the final round of THE 2020 NORTHERN TRUST, ending with an 11-shot victory, the largest in his career. After an hour-long late storm delay, Johnson played the final two holes in near darkness, birdying the 18th Hole for a 30-under-par finish.

The victory returned him to the No. 1 ranking in the world and moves him to No. 1 in the FedExCup Playoffs, assuring he will be at the TOUR Championship in two weeks for a shot at the $15 million prize. Johnson previously won THE NORTHERN TRUST in 2011 and 2017.

Further proof that his win at THE NORTHERN TRUST was one for the record books:

  • This was his 22nd PGA TOUR win, putting him ahead of Tiger Woods for the most wins since the 2007-2008 season.
  • He is only the third player to finish with a score of 30 under or better, joining Ernie Els and Jordan Spieth.
  • His 11- stroke victory was the first double-digit PGA TOUR tournament win in 10 years.
  • It is the fifth time he has won a FedExCup playoff tournament, tying Rory McIlroy for most playoff event wins.

THE NORTHERN TRUST is the first of three events in the FedExCup Playoffs, the culmination of the season-long competition that is the centerpiece of the PGA TOUR schedule. The golf tournament features do-or-die drama as the top 125 players compete to advance. The tournament returns to Liberty National Golf Club outside Manhattan in 2021.
