Steve is Senior Tax Counsel at The Northern Trust Company and is a member of Wealth Planning Advisory Services, a unit within Northern’s Wealth Management Group. In that role, Steve works closely with Northern partners on wealth transfer tax issues. Steve is primarily responsible for resolving issues related to the Generation-Skipping Transfer (GST) tax and educating Northern partners on wealth transfer taxes. Steve also handles federal tax issues with respect to foreign trusts and transfers received by domestic trusts from foreign persons. Additionally, Steve serves as an instructor for Northern’s Trust School.

Prior to joining Northern Trust in 2013, Steve was in private practice for thirteen years, practicing in the areas of tax and estate planning. Prior to private practice, Steve worked in public accounting for two years.

Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College and his Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law.

Steve is a former Chair of the Chicago Bar Association's Trust Law Committee. Steve has previously been a member of the Adjunct Faculty of The John Marshall Law School, Center for Tax Law & Employee Benefits. Steve is a frequent speaker on wealth transfer tax outside of Northern Trust. Steve is also a member of the Board of Advisors for Old St. Patrick’s Church and a volunteer at Misericordia, both located in Chicago.
